Pinterest pin size guide: dimensions and limits
The best Pinterest pin size is 1000 × 1500 px (2:3). See what gets cut off, title and description limits, and a checklist before you publish.

On this page
Pinterest is visual first: if your image is the wrong shape, the pin gets cut off in the feed or shrinks next to everything else. Here are the numbers that matter, and why.
The short answer
| What | Size or limit |
|---|---|
| Standard pin | 1000 × 1500 px (2:3) |
| Minimum size | 600 × 900 px |
| Tallest before it gets cut | 1:2.1 (for example 1000 × 2100 px) |
| Pin title | up to 100 characters |
| Description | up to 500 characters |
| Alt text | up to 500 characters |
| Video pin | 4 seconds to 15 minutes, MP4 or MOV; 2:3 or 9:16 works best |
Why 2:3 works best
Pinterest's home feed is a grid of columns with a fixed width. Every pin is scaled to that width, so a taller image takes up more space in the column and gets more attention. 2:3 (1000 × 1500) is the shape Pinterest recommends: tall enough to stand out, short enough to show whole.
Square (1:1) and wide images still work, but they look small next to 2:3 pins.
What happens to very tall pins
Pins taller than 1:2.1 are cut off in the feed. The person sees only the top part until they open the pin. If you make long infographics, put the headline and the key point in the top half, or split them into several pins.
Title, description and alt text
- Title (100 characters): the first 40 or so characters show most often, so lead with the words people search for. "Pinterest pin size guide" beats "Everything you need to know about…".
- Description (500 characters): write it for search. Say what the pin is about in plain words; a couple of natural keywords help more than a block of hashtags.
- Alt text (500 characters): describe the image for people who use screen readers. It also helps Pinterest understand the image.
- Destination link: where people go when they click the pin. Use the page the pin is about, not just your home page.
A quick checklist before you publish
- Image is 1000 × 1500 px or another 2:3 size.
- Key text sits in the middle of the image, away from the edges.
- Title starts with the main search phrase.
- Description says what the pin is, in one or two sentences.
- Alt text describes the image.
- Destination link points to the right page.
- The pin is saved to the right board.
How Feedlio helps
When you add Pinterest in Feedlio's Compose screen, the preview shows your pin at its real shape, the way Pinterest crops it, and warns you if the image is taller than Pinterest shows in the feed. The Pinterest settings let you set the board, pin title, destination link and alt text, and Feedlio checks the description length before you publish.
You can write one caption for all your platforms and still give Pinterest its own title and link. Try Feedlio free.
